MP says '˜BT is failing our local communities'

Fleetwood MP Cat Smith has slammed broadband provider BT Openreach for its nationwide system failure that left several hundred thousand UK customers without internet.

She met with senior representatives from BT in Westminster on Tuesday and reached an agreement for officials to meet with residents and hear their concerns about the impact of slow connections speeds.

The action comes as a result of a 71 household-strong petition from people in Lancaster whose internet was cut off.

Miss Smith said: “BT Openreach is failing our local communities.

“We would expect to see them working on the basis that they are delivering a public service, but from their actions we are left wondering if they are putting their company profits ahead of local people. For many small businesses, people who work from homebroadband is essential to their work, and yet too many people in my constituency are without it.”

People can meet with Miss Smith and BT officials at 6pm at Marton Road Community Centre in Lancaster this Friday.
