The MP (pictured) met senior managers at the Warton site after it was announced 286 managerial roles could be at risk from the company’s Military Air & Information (MAI) arm in Lancashire.

During the meeting he made it clear he was available to support the company in any way, as it attempts to mitigate against compulsory redundancies.

Mr Menzies said: “I was extremely disappointed to hear about these potential job losses, and we must not forget that behind these numbers it is people and their families affected.

“I have now met the management at BAE, where I was assured that the company was doing everything in its power to mitigate against compulsory redundancies, and I will support them in that in any way I can to ensure any job losses are kept to an absolute minimum.

“News like today’s brings into sharp focus the need for that Enterprise Zone, to ensure careers are available in skilled engineering and manufacturing industries in Warton for many years to come.”
