Road closures and diversions
To complete the works safely Seasiders Way will be closed between Parkinson Way and Bloomfield Road for approximately 11 weeks.
Waterloo Road itself will remain open throughout the project. Drivers are encouraged to check diversion routes in advance to avoid delays.

Project timeline
Local businesses and car parks along the route will remain open as usual. Residents and visitors can continue to access shops, cafes and parking areas without disruption.
The maintenance is expected to finish on Friday 26 June as planned. The council thanks the public for their patience while these major upgrades are carried out, which will help maintain the safety and longevity of this important route.
The upgrades are being delivered in two phases, to minimise disruption by avoiding the closure of both Seasiders Way and Waterloo Road at the same time and to ensure the road can be reopened ahead of the summer holidays.
- Phase 1, Spring 2026: Lower bridge (closure of Seasiders Way)
- Phase 2, Spring 2027: Upper bridge (closure of Waterloo Road)
The following diversions will be in place:
- Northbound, via Parkinson Way, Waterloo Road, Lytham Road and Bloomfield Road
- Southbound, via Bloomfield Road, Central Drive, Waterloo Road and Parkinson Way
