Hand Made Uns’ Art Club is working on a local community themed mosaic to be installed on a side panel of the George Hotel on Central Drive.

The club meets at Ibbison Community Centre from 1.30pm until 3.30pm every Friday.

Led by Boz Phillips and Lee Fitzgerald, the group has been busy preparing designs for the tiles which have largely been donated by local tile firm Al Murad.

And they’ve got some more projects up their sleeves.

Boz said: “In June we are planning a poetry celebration. We hope to feature two local poets performing some of their work. Art Club members will then be invited to create their own poetry as a response to the poetry performers work.

“And our very talented members have also been busy creating decorative dinnerware.

“They have created around 30 different pieces of decorative tableware featuring local buildings, people or historical events.

“Each item is hand drawn which means the pieces are suitable for decorative display only.

“The items are all up cycled or donated by members and local shops.

“Items can be purchased any Friday afternoon but we are also planning to hold a sale of all the items on August 18 at the Revoe Residents Fun Day held at Ibbison Community Centre.

“All proceeds will go to the Revoe Residents Association to support the running of the art club and Memory Lane Cafe.

As well as encouraging new members, Boz is keen to hear from residents who have local historical knowledge and would like to share stories of the area to inspire new pieces of artwork.

Boz added: “The £2 cost to participate in the club includes tea or coffee and biscuits.

“The club operates on a ‘drop-in’ basis, there is no formal membership.

“We encourage people of all abilities aged over 18.”

Lee and Boz, who run the art club, have already seen success with a poster project which saw large scale commissioned posters designed and created by the group displayed on the front of the King Edward Picture House.

This is the second time the group has designed and created two posters for this site, with all the posters drawing on local history, stories and featuring local people.

Art club members have also created sashes and rosettes for singers from Revoe Community Choir for their performance at Blott Art Studio, held to celebrate the 100 years of women’s right to vote.
