‘Missing’ man was found at nearby pub

The search for a missing man who was reported walking into the sea at Blackpool was called off – after he was found in the pub.

Emergency services were called in the early hours of Saturday after a man had reportedly threatened to throw himself into the sea close to the Lyndene hotel.

The police helicopter was launched at around 1.50am to help scour the beach nearby while volunteer rescue workers searched on land and out at sea.

Blackpool RNLI launched both of its D-class lifeboats in the hunt, while Lytham Coastguard was also called in to help.

However, the search soon ended when rescuers found the man safe and well on dry land – at a nearby watering hole.

At around 5am on Saturday, the National Police Air Service (NPAS) Warton tweeted: “Search of the beach for male seen walking into the sea. Patrols find male in local hostelry.”

A Blackpool RNLI spokesman said: “Our RNLI volunteers launched both D-class lifeboats at 2am to reports of a person in the sea near the Lyndene Hotel. Found safe and well elsewhere.”

Lytham Coastguard confirmed it was called to assist.
