Man taking heroin bit officer on the knee

A man tried to bite a police officer attempting to arrest him for using drugs in an alleyway.

Nigel Wilde growled, spun round on the floor and then bit the officer on the knee, Blackpool Magistrates heard.

Wilde, 35, of Withnell Road, Blackpool, admitted assaulting the policeman and illegal possession of a wrap of heroin.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the officer was in the Dickson Road when he was flagged down by a member of the public and alerted to Wilde’s actions.

Steven Townley, defending, said: “My client is in custody on remand for an alleged burglary and is anticipating a lengthy prison term. He has 193 previous offences.”

Wilde was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £180 costs.
