Man rescued from roof of church in Blackpool

A man was rescued from the roof of a church in Blackpool overnight, say police.

The man, who is believed to be in his forties, was reported to police on the roof of St Johns Church , in Cedar Square at around 6.50am on Wednesday, April 18.

A spokesman for the police said: "We were called to reports of a man on a church roof.

"We believe he went up overnight and was not able to get back down.

"We called for help from Fire and Rescue and an ambulance was also called.

"Fire crews went up and brought him down and he was taken to hospital for assessment."

Police were unsure of the man's motives for climbing onto the roof.

The incident concluded by 7.10am.
