Man rescued from flat fire in South Shore

A man has been rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in a South Shore flat yesterday evening (Thursday, September 24).

Three fire engines from Blackpool and South Shore rushed to the scene in Woodfield Road, between the Prom and Lytham Road, at 6.20pm.

On arrival, crews found that an oven had caught fire in the ground floor flat and thick smoke had filled the home.

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus searched the flat and found a man in need of rescue. He was carried outside to safety whilst the fire was extinguished with a hose reel and ventilation unit.

The man has been taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

A fire service spokesman said: "Three fire engines from Blackpool and South Shore attended a fire involving an oven in a ground floor flat on Woodfield Road in Blackpool.

"Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus rescued one casualty from the building who was treated by ambulance crews.

"The fire was extinguished using one hose reel and a ventilation unit."
