Man named after fatal road collision

A man killed in a road collision last night has been named.

John Flitcroft from Clifton, near Preston, was killed around 8pm after the incident on the A583 Kirkham Bypass close to the junction with the B5192 Dowbridge.

Mr Flitcroft’s blue MG sports car was travelling in the direction of Preston when it came off the road and collided with a tree.

The 62-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed for four hours.

Police today launched an appeal for information after the incident.

PS David Hurst of the Road Policing Team said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who are being supported by specialist officers.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area or who witnessed what happened to get in touch so that we can establish exactly how the collision occurred.”
