The offences are alleged to have taken place on January 3 when the alleged victim was found covered in blood from stab wounds to her face and body, in a garden next to her own home on Dinmore Avenue, Grange Park, by a neighbour.

Tuley, who was flanked in the secure dock by two security officers, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during the three-minute court hearing.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, asked for the case to be sent to crown court.

Daniel Harman, defending, did not ask for bail for his client.

Neighbours nearby told of their shock as ambulance crews and police officers arrived at the scene and set up crime investigation tents.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about the alleged incident.
