Jamie Cartmell, who had a bottle of vodka in his hand, moved menacingly towards an officer saying: “Don’t wind me up.”

Cartmell, 26, of Knowsley Crescent, Weeton, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £150 court charge, plus £15 victim’s surcharge, by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said Cartmell phoned police on April 16 saying he had done something wrong. Officers found him sitting on Weeton Road, Kirkham.

He was drunk, and when he began being aggressive with a bottle of vodka, an officer had to push him away and he was then arrested.

Cartmell told magistrates: “The reason I was drinking, was that that morning I found out my niece had been stillborn.

“When I was released from the police station I was told to go to Aspire – an organisation which helps
people abusing substances – but I had to go to the
funeral.”

He added: “I am on anti-depressants and am trying to keep off the drink.”
