Police are managing traffic from Gynn Square to Warley Road.

A spokesman from Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “We have not yet been into the building as we were waiting for gas company engineers to arrive.

“They have been in and taken gas readings and as a result we have put a 50m exclusion zone around the building.”

He added that evacuations of neighbouring properties were likely to be necessary.
