The ‘Most Marvellous Family Day’, at the park on Saturday from 1pm until 4pm, formed part of Wordpool, Blackpool’s annual celebration of the written word.

Visitors met ‘flying sun bird’ and elephant puppets, watched lively dance routines from the Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company, and sang along to music from the Grand Theatre Community Chorus and ukeleles.

“Wordpool is an annual thing and it has been going for a long while, and it has a different theme each year. This year’s theme was the circus, with the Tower Circus celebrating 250 years of the circus this year.

“Children could try out juggling and spinning plates and there was a ‘little Big Top’ in the libraries tent with the library staff dressed as clowns making bow ties with the children.

“Heritage Blackpool had a lot of artwork done by local schools.

“The giant sun birds looked amazing in the sunshine in brilliant red, yellow and orange.

“It’s all to get children inspired in their reading and to use their imagination.

“The children just love it when they see all these weird and wonderful goings-on and they are really engaged with it.”
