Stan Batcow, from SuppArt, said: “Not only do we have a go at arty-crafty activities, but through socialising and chatting the members also give each other informal mutual support and advice – as well as enjoying a cuppa and a biscuit!

“In 2017 we want to make contact with more people in our community, to encourage them to join in with our activities and do something positive for their mental health.

“We will be running outreach sessions at Mereside Community Primary School and at the Children’s Centre on Langdale Road.”

SuppArt also plans to run eight family arts sessions during the school Easter holidays when children and their parents or carers can come and try a variety of different arts and crafts activities together.

These will include modroc modelling, circus skills, batik fabric painting and African drumming.

The group was founded in 2000, when it was funded by Blackpool Council through Sure Start.

Mr Batcow added: “The council funding ended in 2011, and from 2012 we have been running as an independent committee-led organisation.

“We meet on a weekly basis, Friday mornings from 10am – noon at St Monica’s Church Hall, St Monica’s Way, Blackpool, FY4 4FA.
