Lego therapy group to be held at school

Highfurlong School, which moved to a complex with Aspire Academy in Blackpool Old Road in September, said there are ‘huge therapeutic benefits’ to be gained from the ever-popular children’s toy.

Parents have now been encouraged to donate any unwanted bricks before the scheme starts.

“We are hoping to run an after-school Lego therapy club in the not-too-distant future,” a statement from the school said. “The finer details of the day, time, and cohort of children have yet to be decided.

“We know there are huge therapeutic benefits from Lego and our children would enjoy it. We are appealing for any Lego that you may have in the backs of your cupboards that you no longer use.

“Please search high and low and let us know if you can help.”

Highfurlong caters for pupils aged from just two to 19 with a wide range of special educational needs.

These include physical disabilities, learning difficulties, speech, language and communication difficulites, and austistic spectrum disorders.
