John Bickerdike, 28, and Gemma Wilson, 24, assault

A couple accused of assaulting another couple whose Blackpool home they were staying at have made their first appearance at court.John Bickerdike is alleged to have grabbed the man by the throat and Gemma Wilson is said to have slapped the woman in the face.

Bickerdike, 28, and Wilson, 24, both formerly of Derby Road, North Shore, now of no fixed address, each pleaded not guilty to assault.

They were bailed until October 30 for trial by Blackpool magistrates.

The defendants must not go enter Derby Road and not contact the complainants as conditions of their bail.

Anthony Heathway, 35, assault

A car trader lost his temper when he saw a man who he said owed him money for a vehicle, a court was told.

Anthony Heathway, 35, of Collingwood Avenue, Layton, pleaded guilty to assault. Prosecutor, Jim Mowbray, said the victim said he was driving a Mitsubishi VRM in Blackpool on March 15 when Heathway started following him.

The victim said Heathway blocked him in and punched him through the open window of the car.

Steven Townley, defending, said his client did not accept punching the victim. Heathway would admit pushing him in the back and striking him in the back on his upper shoulder.

The case was adjourned for sentence.

Ashley Dodd, 25, drug driving and careless driving

A driver was caught with drugs in his body after finding his girlfriend in bed with his best friend, a court heard.

Ashley Dodd was so shocked after discovering the cheating couple he drove to his mother’s after smoking two cannabis joints.

Dodd, a 25-year-old father-of-two, of Lockerbie Avenue, Anchorsholme, pleaded guilty to two offences of drug driving and one offence of careless driving.

He was given a 12-month community sentence with 20 days rehabilitation, ordered to do 45 hours unpaid work for the community, banned from the road for 18 months and told to pay £85 costs with an £85 victim surcharge.

Prosecutor Jim Mowbray said police saw Dodd driving a BMW close to a Ford Fiesta on East Park Drive, a 30mph zone on April 24 at 12.18am. Both cars were speeding at about 50mph and Dodd was described by an officer as “tailgating” the car in front. At the police station a blood test showed 800 units of benzoylecgonine, a derivative of cocaine, 50 is the limit, and 4.9 units of cannabis - two is the limit.

Paul Robinson, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, was normally hard-working and law-abiding and the offences were completely out of character. Dodd would now lose his job with a supermarket chain, he said.

Kevin Lowther, 27, assault and causing damage

A man became annoyed with his girlfriend after watching England in the World Cup and drinking.

Kevin Lowther spun her around and caused hundreds of pounds of damage to their flat when he smashed two mirrors, a coffee table, crockery and a window.

Lowther, 27, of Church Road, St Annes, pleaded guilty to assault and causing damage.

He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with up to 20 days rehabilitation, told to do 60 hours unpaid work and made to pay £310 compensation.

Prosecutor Jim Mowbray said Lowther’s partner returned to their address and found him watching an England game and drinking on July 7 at 6pm.

Later she heard loud music but when she asked him to turn it down he turned it up.

She went outside and was talking to another woman when Lowther threw a beer bottle out of the window.

He then went out and accused his partner of bad mouthing him before getting hold of her dressing gown spinning her round, the court heard.

Paul Robinson, defending, said Lowther had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and the victim had not been injured. It had been an isolated incident.

David Buckley, 36, shoplifting

A man turned to crime when his girlfriend was in prison.

David Buckley, 36, of Lytham Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and two offences of breaching a conditional discharge, one for theft, the other for assault.

He was sentenced to a 12 weeks curfew from 8pm to 8am and ordered to pay £105 compensation.

Prosecutor, Jim Mowbray, said o Buckley was captured on CCTV taking razors and secreting them about his clothing in Asda, Welbeck Road on May 5.

He had 31 previous thefts and similar offences on his record.
