Kitten '˜dumped in cage' in Marton field

The male cat, believed to be around six weeks old, was found in the garden of a home on Oakwood Close near a locked cat carrier that rescuers believe it had squeezed out of on Wednesday night.

Jennifer Everitt, volunteer at Tender Paws cat sanctuary, said the cat was being looked after, and added: “It’s quite unusual for there to be a kitten on its own. They looked around the area and in the field they found the crate that it had come out of. It had a lot of faeces in it and the tiniest bowl of water.

“It was very, very hungry and dehydrated. It could have been there a couple of days.

“It was six or seven weeks and usually they stay with their mothers until they are eight weeks old. It must have been very frightened.

“We just want to point out that to people that if you get your cats spayed and neutered this doesn’t have to happen. There’s no need to dump cats because theres plenty of rescues out there.”
