More than 1,100 men, women, children, students, celebrities, firefighters, policemen and even dogs donned the famous festive get-up last year, to raise thousands of pounds for the Gazette’s Hospice Heroes campaign and Trinity Hospice.

And, this year, organisers hope even more people will take part in the popular festive event, and are calling on entrants to get involved.

Shirley Morgan, from Trinity Hospice, said: “Santa Dash is becoming one of Trinity Hospice’s most popular fund-raising events – and you can be a part of it!

“Join around 1,000 other Santas on Blackpool Prom for a fantastic event that is enjoyable for the whole family – including the dog!

“The event gets bigger and better each year, with Santas dashing along the prom from the Sandcastle water park to Central Pier and back again.

“Santa Dash isn’t a race, so if you don’t fancy dashing along the route, a pleasant winter stroll will do the trick.”

Last year’s event helped smash the £30,000 barrier in the Gazette’s Hospice Heroes appeal, with the money going towards a target of £200,000.

The Gazette campaign eventually helped to raise more than £260,000.

Shirley said the event, from 11am on Sunday, December 7, is the first of two festive themed fund-raisers next month people can get involved in.

She added: “As we all know, December is a busy month, so if you can’t make the Santa Dash, why not join us for our Santa Cycle on Sunday, December 28 at 11am?

“Ride your bike from the Sandcastle waterpark to Gynn Square and back again. Once again, all ages are welcome and it’s a great opportunity to show off your new bike.

“There’s a discount for entering both events and as usual, all money raised goes to support Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice.”
