More than 30 jobs will be created in a Fylde town’s thriving cafe quarter after it was revealed three new nightspots will open later this year.

Spago and Number 5, in Dicconson Terrace, and Ambiance in Henry Street, all in Lytham, look set to bring dozens of jobs, while investment from the business owners – estimated to be up to six figures each – is promised to revamp what were empty shop units.

Spago, subject to a licence hearing later this month, will launch as an Italian-themed restaurant and cafe next door to Number 5, a former doctors’ surgery, which is being converted into a restaurant and boutique hotel.

Ambiance, a Turkish-themed cafe and bar, which the owner says could change its name, will replace Ahmet’s Takeaway, with the fast food shop moving next door to the former Fylde Spice shop unit.

Helen Vavoso, who is behind the plans for Spago, said: “We are hoping to open end of June, beginning of July.

“We are converting a Grade II-listed building into a restaurant. There is a big investment going into it – six figures – and we are working alongside British Heritage and Fylde Conservation to convert the site.”

Metin Mert, co-owner of Ambiance with Mehmet Eracar, added: “We can see the potential in the area and how it has evolved.”

Vice-chairman of Lytham Business Partnership, Robert Silverwood, said the new venues could see the area become a tourist hotspot.

He added: “If you are from out of town and hear about what they specialise in, and it brings more people in, it can only be a good thing.

“These people (behind the restaurants) are brave but they must be confident of success. It’s better than a charity shop and they are independent traders, which is what we want.”

The new restaurants will join Pizza Express, Capri, Mohshina’s, Java, Bosco, Tony’s Italian, Mojito, Portofino, Wok’s Cooking and Henry’s Bar and Grill close to Lytham Piazza.
