Work has started on the re-development of land close to The Moorings Rest Home, North Promenade, St Annes, to expand it into a larger care centre.

Nick Wood, of Lakeview Rest Homes, the company behind the project, said the new building will be the envy of care homes in Fylde.

He added: “The facilities at the care home will be like no other facility on the Fylde coast.

“We plan to build a cinema, spa, roof garden, salon and nail bar, as well as a bowls and putting green for residents.

“The accommodation will be first-class.”

As part of the first phase of the project, a neighbouring property next to the rest home has been demolished, with work expected to be completed in September or October on a partial build of the home.

It is then planned that residents in the current Moorings site will move across to the new home and live there, before work starts on phase two.

Mr Wood added: “The Moorings will be removed and work will start on the remainder of the site.

“We hope the building will be completed in August 2014, with close to 78 rooms for residents.”

Lakeview Rest Homes own several care sites across the Fylde coast, including Rosewood Lodge in Clifton Drive North, St Annes, Lakeviewin Lake Road, Fairhaven and Newfield Lodge in St Andrews Road South, St Annes.

Mr Wood said: “The new home will be a great addition to the group providing high-quality facilities, while at the same time ensuring that we retain the values and ethos on which our reputation has been built.

“The new facility will enhance our residential care offering and enable us to expand into nursing care.

“Furthermore, this new project will help the local area with the creation of some 50 jobs.”

A series of presentations will take place in March and April about the new development.
