Jilted ex could not let girl go

Robert Martin had been warned by police to leave her alone but he even turned up at her home on Christmas Day.

On another occasion he stepped into the road forcing her to stop her car and asked her to go with him for coffee. He also hung around her workplace.

Martin, 22, of Counsell Court, Thornton, pleaded guilty to harassing his ex between December 25 and 29.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge David Scanlon sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Martin was also put on a two-year restraining order which bans him from contacting his ex, going within 100m of where she works or enter Larkholme Lane, Fleetwood.

Malcolm Isherwood, prosecuting, said the couple were in a relationship for two years but had broken up about six weeks before the offence,

After Martin’s ex complained to police he would not leave her alone police issued him with a harassment warning. He ignored it.

Brett Chappell, defending, said: “It was his first relationship and his first love. When it came to an end it hit him like a ton of bricks. Everything he hoped for was gone and he couldn’t let go.”
