Preston Crown Court heard that the victim was punched, kicked and stamped upon during an ugly incident at the Royal Oak pub, on Lord Street, known locally as Dead’uns.

Steven Hargreaves, 41, of Hawknest Aveue, Fleetwood and his 44-year-old brother Kenneth Hargreaves, of Chaucer Road, Fleetwood had both denied a charge of wounding with intent but were found guilty by a jury prior to today’s hearing.

The court heard the victim, who is no longer in the pub trade, had been off-duty at the time of the incident two years ago when he told the brothers they would not be served any more drink and asked them to leave.

He suffered a broken nose and a permanent eye problem in the attack, which the court was told left him jobless and suffering from flashbacks.

Lawyers for the defendants said both men were normally very hard working but on the date of the offence they had received some bad news.

They were sentenced to eight years each behind bars.

The judge said the people who provided character references for the pair would have been “appalled” if they had seen the CCTV footage of the attack.
