I'm the Fylde Coast's best bus driver, now I want to win the UK title
“The day was a fantastic celebration of the professionalism and dedication shown by our driving teams all day, every day.”
A bus driver is set to represent the Fylde Coast in a prestigious national competition after being crowned ‘Blackpool Transport’s Bus Driver of the Year’.
Christian Williams won the closely-fought award of ‘Bus Driver of the Year’ during a tough day of intense competition, designed to test the drivers’ knowledge and skills.
The competition featured ten drivers who had to complete a theory test before taking on a special driving course in Lower Walkway, Blackpool, designed to replicate real life challenges.

Keith Basson, Training Manager and Driving Assessor at Blackpool Transport, commented: “The day was a fantastic celebration of the professionalism and dedication shown by our driving teams all day, every day.
“Christian, a first-time Bus Driver of the Year competitor, impressed throughout the day to take the title, and congratulations must also go to runner-up Mark Whitehead and Colin Freeman, who finished in third place.”
Lea Harrison, Blackpool Transport’s Managing Director, added: “A huge thank you goes to Keith and his colleagues for organising a fantastic day of competition, and we would like to wish the best of luck to Christian and Mark who will now go on to represent Blackpool at the UK Bus Driver of the Year contest in September.”
