Runners taking part in this year’s Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run are raising money to support organisers Trinity Hospice.
Every penny donated or raised in sponsorship for the run will help Trinity to provide outstanding hospice care to people in the Bispham-based hospice, in hospital or a care home, or in the comfort of their own home.
Leigh Dale is an Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist work in Trinity Community Team. She visits patients at home to ensure they are managing with the symptoms and medications for their palliative condition. She also signposts to other services that can help them.
She said: “Being a Trinity Nurse, we are privileged to be able to support people in their own homes to feel as well as possible. We can give our assurance to them; giving them the confidence to stay where they feel comfortable surrounded by familiarity. And we help their loved ones to provide the best care they are able. It’s truly rewarding.”
8,000 people every year
Trinity touches the lives of around 8,000 people living on the Fylde coast each year. And while its care is completely free at the point of need, it costs more than £10m to run all of its services – which includes Brian House Children’s Hospice – each year.
A wiith just a third of those costs met by the government, the charity must raise more than £5m each year through fundraising activities. That’s why events like the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run are so important. Last year, more than 1,500 people took part and the event raised a staggering £65,000 for the hospice.
Head of Fundraising, Linzi Warburton, said: “Our annual Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run is an incredible event that truly makes a difference to local people who need their local hospice.
“It is only through the generosity of people like those who take part in our events that we can provide consistently good hospice care across the Fylde coast, providing vital care and support to local families. We’re really looking forward to this year’s event and seeing the hundreds of people who have already signed up and are doing so well in raising sponsorship for our very special charity.”
