Eve Ramsay proved she was a real catch after her partner of four years Tom Seaton proposed in a giant fish tank on Saturday.
Holding a sign reading ‘There are plenty of fish in the sea but you’re the one for me,’ and ‘Will you marry me?’ Tom, a 21-year-old joiner swept the former St Aidan’s High School pupil off her feet at Manchester Sea Life Centre.
Eve, formerly of Head Dyke Lane, Pilling thought, she was simply heading for a day out, but instead ended up walking along the bed of the centre’s ocean tank watched on by a giant sea turtle and sharks.
The former Blackpool Sixth Form student, said: “This has got to be the world’s best proposal. I have never heard of anyone being proposed to in this way.
“Tom tailored the whole thing around me. I have always loved anything to do with marine life.”
Tom, of Humberston, decided to enlist the help of staff at The Sea Life Centre after the pair enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime snorkelling holiday in Thailand.
And as the couple watched the giant sea turtle, Tom produced a diamond ring from inside a large model shark egg otherwise know as a ‘Mermaid’s Purse’.
He said: “I was so nervous, I was literally shaking in my wet suit.
“She took it really well. I mean she did say yes.”
The pair, who have been inseparable since they met four years ago at Tollbar Sixth Form College in Waltham, said they are going to enjoy a long engagement as they are saving up to buy a house.
The couple celebrated their engagement with a surprise family party.
Eve, an NHS accountant working at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, said: “Tom said he was taking me to my favourite restaurant but we had time to nip round to my mum’s to show her my ring.
“When I walked in all of our family and friends were there.
“Tom then said I have one more surprise and as he moved out of the way my dad was stood there. He had travelled all the way from Pilling.
“It was so amazing to see him, he is like my best friend.”
