Husband told wife ‘I am going to kill you’

When Paul Stringer returned from Fleetwood Town FC to his four bedroom detatched home on Norman Close, Cleveleys, his wife objected to the smell of beer and a kebab he had brought home with him, a court heard.

Stringer, 52, admitted a physical assault on her and criminal damage to her mobile phone when he appeared at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Alison Quanbrough said: “When he returned home there was a row and he was verbally aggressive towards his wife.

“He grabbed her round the neck at one stage and then put his hand over her mouth shouting, ‘I am going to kill you’.

“She managed to escape to a bathroom and dialled 999 and held up her phone so the operator could hear what was going on.”

Stringer was arrested and in interview told police he had been out on the day of the offence and when he returned his wife said: “I am not having the smell of beer and that kebab in here.”

During the incident he smashed the screen of her iPhone.

Magistrates agreed to impose a restraining order on him forbidding him to enter Norman Close and fined him £170 and ordered him to pay £20 victims’ surcharge and £80- court costs.
