Hundreds look for debt help

Hundreds of people in Blackpool have been forced to turn to charities for help over debt worries, according to new figures.

In the first six months of this year, 510 people in the resort sought debt advice from StepChange Debt Charity – up by 18 per cent compared to 433 in the same period in 2013.

The average person seeking help in Blackpool was found to be just £1 short of covering essential household bills each month, and owed an average of £12,412 in unsecured debt.
