Housing plan sparks fear over ‘suburbs’

A meeting is being held at 7.30pm on Thursday in Staining Village Hall to discuss a bid by the How Planning Group to build 30 houses on land next to Kings Close in the village.

The application is due to be considered by Fylde Council’s development management committee on Wednesday, February 26.

Staining councillor John Singleton has warned turning the village into a suburb of neighbouring Blackpool would be “the last thing we would want”.

And Staining parish council chairman Malcolm Hyland is now calling on residents to add their voice to protests against the scheme.

He said: “We are trying to get as many people as possible to come to the meeting and have done a leaflet drop around the village.

“We want to make Fylde Council know we don’t want any further building in the village.

“The parish council is raising strong objections because we feel we have enough houses in Staining, the traffic is already horrendous and there are concerns about flooding.

“Blackpool Council recently turned down an application for seven bungalows at The Nook, Broad Oak Lane, which is part of the village within their boundary.

“We were very pleased about that and would like to see Fylde Council take the same approach.”

Blackpool’s planning committee went against the recommendation of officers to throw out the application.

Last year, councillors on Fylde’s development management committee granted planning permission for 42 homes on Chain Lane, Staining, on the basis the council at that time could not demonstrate a five-year housing supply.
