Home residents have their cake and eat it for charity

Staff, volunteers and residents at the Halloween charity cake off, raising funds for the Macmillan Cancer charity at The Manse Nursing Home, Kirkham.

Staff, residents and their families all enjoyed tucking into some Halloween-themed baked goods, with a ‘cake-off’ at the Manse Nursing Home, Kirkham, to raise money for Macmillan.

There were eyeball cupcakes, caterpillar cupcakes, creepy crispy cakes and pumpkin cookies, as well as seven larger cakes for guests to sample.

Among those who attended was the Mayor of Fylde, Coun Christine Akeroyd.

The cakes were made by staff, relatives and some of the residents. Around £137 was raised on the day, with funds still coming in.

Claire Ainsworth, care assistant who organised the event, said: “Everybody really enjoyed it. The residents really enjoyed it, as it was something a bit different and they helped make cakes as well.

“When the Macmillan coffee morning took place in September, it was really busy here in the morning, so we carried it on with a Halloween afternoon as well. Some of the families came along to support the event and they were still coming into the evening.”
