The upgrade by parent company the Spirit Group will bring 20 new jobs and has delighted campaigners who battled to save the hostelry after it came under threat of demolition to make way for proposed retirement flats in 2012.

Originally a hotel and popularly known as The Vic, the Church Road hostelry was listed as a community asset under the Localism Act in a bid to ensure it continues as a pub after the flats plan was blocked by Fylde Council planners.

It is the oldest pub in St Annes and town mayor Ed Nash, a committee member of the Victoria Hotel Community Association, which was formed to fight the flats plans, said of the revamp: “It’s just what we have been waiting for and hopefully a major step towards The Vic realising its full potential.”

Extensive external work on the building, which dates back to 1897, has been taking place for much of this month as part of the refurbishment.

General manager Jordan Sadler said: “The Victoria Hotel is a big part of the community, so we’re pleased to be able to offer even better surroundings and a new menu alongside a wide selection of real ales and craft beers to our loyal and new guests alike.”
