High winds Force Star Wars cancellation
The Wednesday night showing – of Star Wars: The Force Awakens – had to be stopped at around 9pm, and halfway through the film, when windspeeds continued to increase.
The hardy crowd of thousands endured rain and winds for the screening, but conditions deteriorated, with the Met Office recording gusts well over 40mph.
All attending will now be offered a refund.

Hide AdA spokesman for Lytham Festival said: “Unfortunately the force of the wind was too much for our showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Lytham Festival and we were forced to halt the show.
“We are of course very disappointed that we had to take this action but this is a huge site surrounded by temporary structures and therefore the sensible decision was to stop the screening as the winds increased significantly.
“The safety of our customers is our priority at all times and while we appreciate this is very disappointing to all concerned, the weather is not something we can control.
“All customers can claim a FULL refund.”
