It was Blackpool RNLI’s tenth call out in six days and this time the casualities were found 1.2 miles off shore and were suffering from hypothermia.

The offshore wind had dangerously swept them out on the tide but they were located by crew onboard Blackpool Atlantic 85 who swiftly brought them to Cleveleys beach where they given medical care by waiting paramedics.

A charter vessel from Blue Mink Charters was nearby and helped with assistance,

Coastguard officers were also on the scene.

A spokesperson for Blackpool RNLI said: “A positive outcome, but this does highlight the dangers of an offshore wind and also the danger of the still, very cold sea, it is nowhere near the air temperature.

“In this case, the paddle boarders had all the correct equipment, but remain fortunate that HM Coastguard were alerted and a timely rescue made with public and RNLI resources.

”If you see or have any concerns, please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Minutes really can make the difference for a positive outcome.”
