Here's what the new children's play area at Anchorsholme Park might look like - and how you can help decide its future

It will be held in the park’s bowling pavilion, off Anchorsholme Lane West, from 2-6pm, and is open to all interested residents.

Families are being encouraged to get involved and have their say on the scheme, with wider plans including a new cafe, multi-use games area (MUGA), and an “improved open space”, with “most” open next summer.

Water company United Utilities closed off much of the park in 2015 to carry out sewage improvement works, which included burying a huge underground storm tank.

Blackpool Council said “work has been going on behind the scenes” since then to “design a new play area with aims to be an accessible place where children can play, explore, and have fun.”

Jupiter Play, a play and sport design company, have drawn up plans that are “fully inclusive for all children and will engage youngsters with special needs and disabilities”, the authority added. “Quiet sensory spaces” and specially-adapted equipment are also planned.

The budget for the play area is £240,000 and is funded by the council and United Utilities.

The final park design will be agreed following the opinions from the drop-in event, with plans to begin work in the New Year.
