Heartbroken Blackpool mum of tragic twins reveals baby boy 'has gone to play in the sky'

"We want to thank everyone at Bolton Hospital and Alder Hey for giving him this chance, but he was missing his little sister too much and he's gone to go play with her in the sky along with my two grandads and gran."

Little Abi - who was born four months early alongside his twin sister and weighed just 434g - underwent urgent stomach surgery on Thursday at Liverpool's specialist Alder Hey Hospital.

His mother, Chloe Hamilton, hoped the operation would increase his chances of survival after losing his twin sister shortly after she was born.

However, last night she was left heartbroken when the tiny baby - who weighed less than two hamsters - died as he recovered from surgery.

Abi suffered three cardiac arrests and died at the specialist children's hospital, where Chloe and her 32-year-old husband were staying with him.

Before this week's transfer to Alder Hey, Chloe and her husband were living in the intensive care ward at Bolton Hospital as Abi fought for his life.

Twenty eight-year-old Chloe said: "We are beyond devastated. We are so unbelievably proud of him.

"He has shown me and my husband the true definition of strength and we will keep that going in honour of him and his sister.

"We want to thank everyone at Bolton Hospital and Alder Hey for giving him this chance, but he was missing his little sister too much and he's gone to go play with her in the sky along with my two grandads and gran."

Abi had 10cm of his bowel removed in this week's operation and was due to have surgery again to have a stoma fitted.

On Thursday, Chloe believed her little son was doing well recovering from the procedure.

She said: "Gosh, this boy is so strong." But, just a few hours later, he had sadly passed away.

Chloe, of Westmorland Avenue, Blackpool, was overjoyed when she discovered she was pregnant on Christmas Day.

A scan revealed she was expecting twins - a girl and a boy - but at the end of April disaster struck.

Chloe's waters broke at just 22 weeks pregnant and she was taken to Bolton Hospital which has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for premature newborns.

Her 23-week-old baby girl died 12 hours after birth weighing just 439g.

Chloe said: "We have been told our son's brain has been damaged but they can't tell us for sure if he will be affected, they also told us his little heart isn't contracting properly and he struggles to breathe.

"We have stayed positive that our little boy will overcome this, but we are struggling.

"My little boy has been fighting so hard. We were told he was bleeding from his tummy, his lungs, his brain, his mouth... just everywhere.

"But he is getting better, although it's still very much touch and go.

"Luckily, he's a very stubborn little boy. He's got the doctors and nurses wrapped around his little finger."
