Hair ace makes final cut

Rebecca Jayne Turner, 24, made it through to the final of the annual British Hair and Beauty Awards in the Best Stylist category ahead of thousands of other hopeful beauticians.

Rebecca, who lives at Springfield Drive in Thornton, became a hairdresser when she was just 16-years-old, after leaving Saint Aidan’s High School in Preesall.

Her solo business, Rebecca Jayne Hair Specialist, now styles the hair of hundreds of people across the Fylde coast, from one-year-old babies to pensioners.

She said: “It was always what I wanted to do. I absolutely love it.

“I get to change people’s looks and help build their confidence in their appearance.

“I get to know my clients and become their friends, and if they don’t know what they want I can help them choose the hairstyle that’s going to suit them best and match their lifestyle.

“My youngest clients are one-year-old babies going in for their first haircuts. My oldest client is 101-years-old.

“It’s quite in-depth. People don’t usually realise how in-depth it actually is, especially when it comes to medical conditions like cirrhosis or alopecia.

“The first thing I say is you’ve got to have the right shampoo. If you don’t have the right shampoo you’ve got no chance.

“There isn’t anything about hairdressing that I don’t like doing.

“The only downside is the early starts and the late finishes, but that’s the joys of being self-employed!”

Rebecca won third place in last year’s Hair and Beauty Awards’ Best Stylist category after impressing judges with her fashionable party hairstyles for dance competitions, beauty pageants, proms and weddings.

She now hopes to scoop the coveted first-place title and bring her business to the next level as a stylist for glittering stage stars.

She said: “I’m trying to get first place. It would be amazing.

“It’s an official title and gives you a real boost.

“I do a lot of stage work, which I like best, and hopefully once I’ve got a real title I can start to go even further with it.

“I’m going up against people who have been hair-dressing for 40 years or more, so when you put it into perspective you think maybe they deserve to win more.

“I’m just grateful that I’ve got this far so early in my career.”
