People also enjoyed live music and food and drink in a matinee. Blackpool Council deputy leader and park ward councillor Gillian Campbell (inset) said: “What a brilliant 70th birthday.

“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying and joining in the party.

“The turn-out shows how @ The Grange can play such an important role in the community and really become a vibrant hub of activity.”

The birthday celebrations continue this week with an exhibition at the @ The Grange community hub, on Bathurst Avenue, to showcase old photographs from the history of the housing estate, which was founded in 1948.

In 1998, the estate’s first Neighbourhood Watch was created. In 2005, it was awarded a Sustainable Communities Award from then deputy PM John Prescott.

Cath Powell MBE, community development manager for @The Grange, who is helping to organise the exhibition, said: “We have had a great response from past and present residents to the exhibition, with some lovely memories and fabulous photos sent in, it promises to be a lovely exhibition.”
