Glass attack pub landlord undergoes surgery

A pub landlord has been left needing surgery after being hit in the face with a glass.

Lee Jane, the landlord at the Ship and Royal pub in Lytham, was attacked at 9.45pm on Saturday night by a customer, police said.

The 36-year-old was hit in the face with the glass leaving him with a deep cut below the left eye.

Police said door staff at the venue performed a citizens arrest and detained the person they believed was responsible until officers arrived.

Paramedics were called to the scene.

Mr Jane was taken to Blackpool victoria Hospital for treatment.

He is now to undergo surgery, police said.

A spokesman for Spirit Pub Company, the owner of the Clifton Street pub, said: “We can confirm on Saturday night a serious incident occurred in which the general manager of the Ship and Royal pub was assaulted.

“The general manager is still in hospital and we are working closely with the police in their investigations, and as such cannot comment further on the detail regarding the incident.

“The safety of our guests and our team is of the highest priority and will be reviewing our security processes to ensure that, where possible, we can prevent any further incidents.”

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “A 36-year-old man was wounded with a glass at the Ship and Royal pub in Lytham on Saturday.”

n Aaron Henney, 20, of no fixed abode, has been charged with wounding and will appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court.
