Fylde workers give blood charity boost

The donation from the Springfields Employees’ Medical Research & Charity Trust Fund has enabled North West Blood Bikes to purchase 400 much-needed box covers, which not only provide protection for the supplies they carry, but also enhance the safety of the riders.

North West Blood Bikes is a charity run solely by volunteers and operates an out of hours service delivering urgent blood samples, medical records, medication, medical equipment, blood products and donor breast milk for five NHS Trusts in the North West.

Many of the items being transported are supplied by the hospitals in sealed plastic boxes, but lack any outer protection from the elements and rigours of the high speed transportation along motorways.

The box covers donated to North West Blood Bikes are high-visibility and therefore have the added bonus of providing additional safety measures for the vulnerable motorcyclists.

“The assistance of the Springfields employees in supporting the North West Blood Bikes is really appreciated,” said Steve Pugh, who works in Uranium Operations at Springfields and is also a controller for North West Blood Bikes.

“The new covers will provide protection from the elements for the items our riders carry on behalf of the NHS and also increase the safety of our riders and ensure that we can continue to provide our professional service to the people of the North West.”

The Springfields Employees’ Medical Research & Charity Trust Fund does not make cash donations, but purchases equipment for medical organisations and registered charities.
