Helen Jayne, who as a teenager won the best female singer in the 1980 BBC Rising Stars show and has sung with the likes of the Glen Miller Orchestra and headlined her own cruise ships show, has opened Forever Weddings in Cleveleys.

Helen, who hails from St Annes, said she had been working on the idea for some time but got the drive to get started when she was planning her own wedding.

She said: “I have been a singer for 20 years on the cruise ships but my mother developed dementia so I came home to look after her.

“I did some singing locally and used to sing at the care homes for the residents, but when mum died I wanted to take a new direction.

“I got married last year and it was while looking to create my own perfect wedding that I realised I could do this.”

She is specialising in wedding event planning and venue dressing and creates bespoke decorations.

Helen added: “It is everything from table decorations to choosing the right chair covers, colour scheme, and arranging all the main aspects of the day.

“The idea is to make it perfect for the bride and groom.

“It is a growing market but there is nothing quite like the service we offer in the area.

She said she has sourced a lot of traditional decorations such as candelabras, sashes and table skirts and has a showroom at her premises at 123 Victoria Road West.

“We have some lovely displays and people can come in a relax to plan their weddings.

“I have been talking to a couple who want a 1940s style wedding which will be wonderful so there is a huge scope for being creative.”

Helen met her husband Steve Wear four years ago but had actually worked with him in the past.

She said: “We actually went out together about 34 years ago when we did a summer season together. He is a life-long musician and it was great to be able to come back here to live after years of being on the ships or living in London where I was doing shows.”
