Fylde Rangers to rescue as Pip the young seal is stranded on the beach at St Annes
“We made sure the seal was safe and undisturbed until another trained rescuer arrived with some equipment”
Members of Fylde Rangers Service joined with British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) in coming to the aid of a young seal found on St Annes’ North Beach.
The young common seal, named ‘Pip’ the pup by the rescuers, had got a little lost and as the tide was coming in, was not keen to return to the sea.

“When we arrived, there was already a trained BDMLR member there and between us we made sure the seal was safe and undisturbed until another trained rescuer arrived with some equipment,” said a Fylde Ranger Service spokesperson, who offered advice for any members of the public who make a similar find.

“'Pip' was taken to a nearby vets to be assessed. If you come across a live seal, or any other marine mammal, on the beach it is hugely important that you keep your distance, at least 10m away, put your dog on a lead and notify the coastguard and the BDMLR.”
