Izabella Hadfield, from Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College, won a competition organised by Blackpool’s Claytons Jewellers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their St Annes shop – and to inspire the next generation of local designers.

Her design featured a six-pointed star set with a single diamond in the centre, wrapped in a ribbon of precious metal set with more diamonds. It was then hand crafted by a Clayton’s designer.

Izabella said: “I chose this design because I like how the diamonds weave around the star and how it contrasts with the sharp straight edges of the star. I thought white gold would look best and complement the diamonds.

“I was inspired by the world of fantasy. And I hope the result is almost hypnotic. I’m delighted that my design was chosen. It looks wonderful now it has been made. It’s even more beautiful than I could have imagined.”

Graham Clayton said: “The level of creativity in this competition has taken us all by surprise. I hope all those who entered will carry on creating beautiful works of art.”

“Many of the entries would have been worthy winners. But the judges felt that, despite some intense competition, Izabella’s design appealed to them because her inspiration was reflected in her design and it created the hypnotic effect she was hoping to achieve.’

“We have named the winning piece The Anniversary Star. It’s a fitting way to commemorate our 30th year.”

The winning design was auctioned for charity as part of the St George’s Day celebrations on Friday 27th April raising £2,000 for St George’s Festival Charities.
