Fylde coast pram pride for Prince George

A St Annes businessman had more reason than most to feel proud over the Royal Christening as it was revealed his company supplied the pram that the future King George is pushed around in.

Alan Halsall, a former captain of the Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club, is the owner of the world famous Silver Cross company.

Its products, which are often referred to as the Rolls Royce of prams, can cost up to £1,450 in the case of the Balmoral model and are used by royal families and celebrities around the world.

Both the Queen and Prince Charles spent time in Silver Cross prams in their tender years and television footage of her majesty pushing her children round Balmoral meant Silver Cross was the pram of choice for the well healed in the 1960s.

The company hit trouble in 2001 and Alan, who is also well known in horse racing circles for his horses, saw the opportunity to take over a true British icon by buying it.

He said: “We are delighted that the royal couple purchased a Silver Cross pram.

“I cannot tell you how proud I am that a future king of England is in one of our prams.

“It is wonderful for me, the staff and for Britain that the Duchess of Cambridge chose to purchase from our company which supports British manufacturing.”

When asked what it was that made them so special he replied: “Ask the babies!

“Seriously, we aim to go the extra mile with everything we produce and I think we constantly exceed customers’ expectations. We aim to give the best ride possible for our babies.”

Alan would not breach confidentiality by revealing which model of pram the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, chose.

He said the company, which employs 150 people worldwide but manufactures its prams, pushchairs and car seats from its base off the A59 on the way to Skipton, strives to maintain the tradition of quality British made products.

He added: “We are doing well. We have expanded the range with products for a modern lifestyle . We have recently opened a shop in Hong Kong and we sell all over the world.”

Prince George, third in line to the throne, was christened in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace in London by the Archbishop of Canterbury in a private ceremony on Wednesday.
