The team at Lytham’s Park View 4U park won Heritage Lottery Coastal Communities Fund cash to the tune of £395,000 to create the scheme, originally earmarked for the former Scruples nightclub site on the foreshore off Lytham Green.

However, councillors decided they preferred a project by Lytham St Annes Civic Society to build an art-themed seating area on that site, for which funding is being sought.

The Park View team decided to press on when Lottery chiefs told them they could create their play scheme on their Park View Road playing fields.

A spokesman for Park View said: “We are delighted to announce that our new Sand and Water Play area opened on August 1.

“Park View 4U would like to thank the Coastal Community Fund, Fylde Council, William Pye Ltd, Re Landscape, WHGood, and Lytham Lawns for the magnificent addition to our Park and to all our park users for their continuing support.”

The scheme will create 12 new jobs within the park – one full-time assistant site supervisor, two part-time education officers and nine additional cafe staff.
