The design company, Freestyle, which has been commissioned to create the park, should have the plans ready in September and if everything gets the seal of approval, the skate park will be open in
November.

The committee is now hoping to form a ‘Friends of Fleetwood Skatepark’ group to help run and maintain the facility as well as organising events or competitions there.

Council officers have met representatives of Fleetwood Civic Society, Fleetwood Community Group and the skatepark committee at the site in the Marine Gardents to get an idea of the dimensions.

Coun Emma Anderton, a member of the committee said: “Committee members were happy that it is going to be big enough to incorporate all the design features that had previously been discussed with the skating community.

“The committee is really pleased that an agreement could be reached about the location of the site which was changed following public consultation. We think the site will work just as well, if not better.” Organisers are also hoping to hold a special open event, weather permitting.

Freestyle Skateparks is one of the oldest skatepark design companies in the country priding itself on creating challenging, yet safe skateparks.
