Four fire crews tackle huge blaze

A large commerical premises fire has is send large amounts of smoke into the sky around Thornton Cleveleys.

Lancashire Fire Service took a 999 call reporting a fire on the Fleetwood Road North site involving the flammable residue of an otherwise empty storage tank and a propane cylinder.

Firefighters from Bispham and Fleetwood were the initial response and set up water jets, calling for two more fire engines and crews.

Crews say the fire has generated large volumes of smoke and have requested police assistance to evacuate local residents living in closest proximity to the site.

More fire crews were thne called, with Blackpool and South Shore crews joining to tackle the blaze as well as specialist firefighting foam tender and a support pump from Preston.
