Football scheme to keep young people out of trouble is awarded grant

Clive Grunshaw awarded a total of £7,220 to four organisations in Preston, Fleetwood, and Blackburn as part of the scheme, which offers small grants to groups whose work helps achieve the priorities set out in his Police and Crime Plan.

The successful applicants will use the money to support activity sessions aimed at young people, which will help achieve the Commissioner’s aim of tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Groups were able to bid for grants of up to £2,500 for projects that support victims of crime, protect vulnerable people, defend frontline policing or tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Westview Football Team, Fleetwood, landed £2,500 towards the cost of developing a residents’ football team, mostly made up of local unemployed young men, and a junior mixed team which will train weekly

Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, who hails from Fleetwood, said: “Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is one of my priorities and this money will fund projects working with young people that help to do that.”
