Fire crews tackle blaze at South Shore shop and flat

Six fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms arrived at the scene late last night (August 24) to a fire involving a shop and the flat above it on Lytham Road.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "No injuries have been reported but a number of people self-evacuated before crews arrived.

"One fire engine and one aerial ladder will remain overnight. They will be damping down and making sure the scene is safe."

An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin at 10am today, the fire service said.

Blackpool Police also attended the incident, and urged everyone to avoid the area this morning due to road closures.

A police spokesman said: "Lytham Road is closed between Bloomfield Road and the Promenade due to a building fire.

"It is likely to remain closed for some time so please find an alternative route."
