Female driver taken to hospital after crash on busy road

An air ambulance along with fire crews attended the scene.

A Lancahire Police spokesman said: “One female driver was taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the crash.

“An investigation is ongoing looking into how it was caused.”

A resident on Blackpool Road North, who asked not to be named, said: “I was just sitting in my living room and heard an almighty bang.

“It was very scary to hear as you knew something terrible must have happened.

“When I went to look out on the road, a lot of people were panicking as you could tell it was a very serious accident.

“I send my well wishes to the driver and hope she can recover.”
