Kerry Grieve, prosecuting, said police checked a Citroen Picasso on Hunter Road, Freckleton on February 4, and it registered as having no insurance.

Efforts were made to stop it but Wolstenhulme drove on, stopped and ran off. He said he ran because he did not have insurance or a full licence. A blood test showed 820 micrograms of diazepam in his body – 550 micrograms is the limit.

Jessica Partington, defending, said her client suffered from anxiety, depression and panic attacks for which he was prescribed medication by his doctor.

The day of the offence he had taken more of his medication than he should have after a row. He was banned from the road for 12 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge.
