A bespoke 18-hole adventure golf course celebrating the heritage of Fylde is to follow the Lake’s new adventure play area, which was unveiled earlier this summer, with both designed to complement the ongoing wider Fairhaven National Lottery Heritage Fund Redevelopment project.

The Lake, which originally dates back to 1892 and was redesigned in 1925, was awarded a National Lottery grant of almost £1.5m two years ago.

That is funding a project which along with the conservation and restoration of the popular attraction’s buildings and landscape, is seeing the Lake’s infrastructure and water quality improved, new information boards installed and community activity encouraged.

Other improvements include an expanded cafe and bird watching centre plus a new watersports centre and upgraded footpaths, plus the restoration of the Japanese Lagoon Garden, one of the original features of the park.

Contractor for the adventure golf course is leisure space specialist Greenspan and the feature’s celebration of Fylde’s heritage will see it taking in iconic buildings such as the Windmill, Lytham Hall, St Annes pier and Singleton fire station.

Bumper crowds attracted to Fairhaven by the sunshine during the school holidays have been eagerly watching the work continuing at the site of the adventure golf course skirting Inner Promenade and adjacent to the Lake’s tennis courts.

A Fylde Council spokesman said the development, along with the ongoing restoration project that aims to bring the attraction’s buildings, parkland and water sport heritage back to life, will enhance Fairhaven for residents and visitors alike .

“As well as featuring some of the area’s most iconic buildings, avid golfers will be able to test their skill on mini versions of the Fylde’s best golf courses, with replica holes from Royal Lytham and St Annes and Fairhaven golf clubs featured,” said the spokesman.

“Fairhaven Adventure Golf will be open in early September with the rest of the restoration project complete for spring 2021.”
